With just over thirty percent of its residents living in poverty, McDowell County, West Virginia, is often pushed to the fringes. But while the community struggled to get a basic essential, DigDeep embraced the opportunity to make an impact.
DigDeep believes everyone deserves access to clean water and wastewater services. The Appalachia Water Project helps communities test for contaminants, build infrastructure for water lines, and employ local professionals to work alongside the organization’s staff.
Though they were up against steep terrain and 100-year-old plumbing infrastructure, DigDeep built home-to-service connections for 100 houses with help from the We Care by ZYN fund. Residents of McDowell County are now connected to regulated municipal water supply and enjoy clean water at the turn of their tap.
